Kirsten Fitzgerald
Kirsten is a proud ensemble member of A Red Orchid Theatre. Elsewhere in Chicago, she has worked with Defiant Theatre (R.I.P.), Remy Bumppo, Plasticene, Steppenwolf, Shattered Globe, Prop Theatre, Circle Theatre, The Goodman, Famous Door, National Pastime, Aardvark, and many more. Kirsten’s work in The Sea Horse, at A Red Orchid, was recognized this year with a 2006 Jeff Award for Best Actress in a Principal Role. She has also been honored with an After Dark Award for Outstanding Performance in A Moon for the Misbegotten at Circle Theatre, and a Jeff Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Mr. Bundy at A Red Orchid. An MFA graduate of the University of Iowa and a BA graduate of the University of Kansas, Kirsten has worked with the Iowa Playwrights Festival, the Utah Shakespearean Festival, and was featured on a season premiere episode of ER. Kirsten also teaches acting at Columbia College and manages the Thresholds Theatre Arts Project, a project committed to showcasing the frequently misunderstood and rarely heard artistic voices of individuals living with mental illnesses. Thresholds works to reduce the negative stigma associated with mental illness by educating our communities. Recently Kirsten is performing at Next Theatre in the Chicago area premiere of Christopher Durang’s, Miss Witherspoon and in Leaving Iowa at The Royal George Theatre.
